1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], which operates Variant Pilot. By creating an account or using Variant Pilot, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement where you live. [FOR APPROVAL] The minimum age of 18 is stated pending your confirmation and should match the App Store age rating.
3. What Variant Pilot is
Variant Pilot is an educational genetic information and research-monitoring service. You upload a raw genetic data file from a consumer testing service; Variant Pilot identifies variants that appear in published research, explains what that research says in plain language, matches your variants to new studies over time, and produces briefings and optional AI summaries.
4. Not medical advice
Variant Pilot provides educational and informational content only. Variant Pilot is not a healthcare provider, is not a medical device, and does not practise medicine. It does not diagnose any disease or condition, does not provide medical treatment, does not replace a physician or other qualified healthcare professional, and does not guarantee any health outcome.
Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional about any medical question or decision. Never disregard or delay professional advice because of something you read in Variant Pilot.
5. Limitations of genetic information
- Genetic associations are probabilistic, not deterministic.
- Genetics is only one of many factors affecting health and traits.
- Research evolves, and interpretations can change or be reversed.
- The presence or absence of a variant does not establish that you have, or will develop, any condition.
- Consumer raw genetic data can contain errors and gaps.
- Variant Pilot is not clinical genetic testing and its results must not be treated as a clinical or diagnostic test result.
6. AI-generated information
- AI features are optional and off unless you enable them.
- AI-generated content can be incomplete, outdated or wrong.
- It is educational only and is not medical advice.
- Verify anything important with primary sources or a qualified professional.
7. Mental Wellness content
Mental Wellness content is educational. It does not diagnose mental-health conditions, does not predict whether you have or will develop a psychiatric condition, does not provide psychiatric treatment, and does not replace professional mental-health care. If you have concerns about your mental health, speak to a qualified professional.
8. Nutrient and supplement information
Nutrient and supplement information summarises published research. It is not a prescription and not a dosage recommendation, and it does not tell you to start, stop or change any medication or treatment. It may not account for your medications, pregnancy, medical conditions, allergies or possible interactions. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making changes.
9. Research information
Scientific research changes over time, can contain conflicting findings, has methodological limitations, and may not apply equally to every individual or population. Study information surfaced in Variant Pilot does not establish an individual medical outcome for you.
10. Your account
- Provide accurate account information and keep it current.
- Keep your password confidential; you are responsible for activity under your account.

- Do not share your account with others.
11. Data you upload
You must have the right and authority to upload any genetic information you submit. Upload your own genetic data. Do not upload another person's genetic data unless you are legally authorised to do so and that person has given informed consent, or you are their legal guardian or authorised representative. You are responsible for that authorisation, and we may remove data and suspend accounts where it appears to be missing.
You retain your rights in your genetic data. You grant us a limited licence to process it solely to provide the service to you.
12. Subscriptions and payment
- A free tier provides DNA upload, variant analysis, insights and categories. A Premium subscription adds research monitoring, variant-to-study matching and related alerts.
- Premium is billed as a recurring monthly subscription through Stripe, our payment processor, using the card you provide at checkout.
- Subscriptions renew automatically each period until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in the app; access continues until the end of the paid period.
- Variant Pilot currently does not sell subscriptions through Apple in-app purchase. All purchases, renewals, cancellations and refunds are handled through Stripe, including when you use the iOS app.
- Refunds are handled as described in our Refund Policy.
- Access codes, where offered, may grant time-limited access on their own terms.
13. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Variant Pilot for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to access another person's account, genetic data or insights.
- Upload genetic information you are not authorised to upload.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or bypass security controls.
- Interfere with, overload or disrupt the service.
- Scrape, harvest or bulk-extract content, or reverse-engineer the service.
- Misrepresent Variant Pilot output as clinical or diagnostic results.
14. Intellectual property
The Variant Pilot software, design, branding, written explanations, curated variant catalog and evidence assessments are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. You may use them only through the service as permitted here. You keep your rights in your own genetic data and the content you submit.
15. Third-party research and links
Variant Pilot links to scientific publications and external resources, including PubMed and the GWAS Catalog. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or policies.
16. Availability and changes to the service
Features, research sources, catalogs and evidence assessments evolve. We may add, change or discontinue features, and the service may be unavailable during maintenance or for reasons outside our control.
17. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information in it is complete or current.
18. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

21. Termination

We may update these Terms. The effective date above will change, and we will give notice of material changes in the app or by email. Continuing to use Variant Pilot after notice means you accept the updated Terms.
Accepting these Terms is not consent to optional AI processing. AI processing is a separate, explicit choice you make in Settings.
